I was tooling around Wikipedia after watching Eight Men Out and came across this nugget.  Did you know…baseball legends Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays were banned from Major League Baseball (or more accurately, they were placed on the “permanently ineligible” list) by Commissioner Bowie Kuhn in the early ’80s?  Mantle and Mays had accepted jobs at two different Atlantic City casinos (mainly as greeters), which Kuhn felt was “no place for a baseball hero and Hall of Famer.”  The pair were reinstated by Kuhn’s successor, Peter Ueberroth, in 1985.
