The last James Bond flick, Casino Royale, kicked so much butt, not even a crappy title like Quantum of Solace makes me want to stay away from the next one. It comes out in November here in the U.S. (October for my brothers and sisters across the pond), and here's the first teaser trailer...

Purely by chance, I came across last night’s airing on CBS of AFI’s 10 Top 10, aka Summer’s Here and This Oughta Kill Time Until Survivor Starts Up Again. The gimmick here was that rather than lumping the so-called greatest movies into one list, they were broken into genres. The categories for this list of [...]
Purely by chance, I came across last night's airing on CBS of AFI's 10 Top 10, aka Summer's Here and This Oughta Kill Time Until Survivor Starts Up Again. The gimmick here was that rather than lumping the so-called greatest movies into one list, they were broken into genres. The categories for this list of lists were animation, fantasy, science fiction, sports, westerns, gangsters, mystery, romantic comedies, courtroom dramas, and epics. And I got some problems here.
First, notice anything missing? I'll give ... Read on, Daddy-O

Due to time constraints I wasn't able to enjoy yet another Band of Brothers marathon over the Memorial Day weekend. But all was not lost as I finally got to catch a viewing of The Great Escape, which I had never seen before. And I'm pleased to say that for the most part, the film's reputation as a classic is well-earned.
The basic premise of the movie is thus: It's World War II and the German High Command, tired of dealing ... Read on, Daddy-O

Despite the tragic death of Heath Ledger, the intense ad campaign for The Dark Knight continues. Most of these ads reflect the rather dark and disturbing mood the film is sure to revel in. And for many Bat-fans, this is how it should be. Batman is, at its core, a pretty dark and disturbing franchise about a kid whose parents are murdered and trains for years to become a high-tech vigilante.
But it wasn't always this way. Despite the ... Read on, Daddy-O

...Quantum of Solace? Come again? It's supposedly taken from an old Ian Fleming short story, but that's just horrible. George Lucas is laughing at this title. It sounds more like a crappy new age album than a spy movie.

OK, so I'm not so quick on the whole sequel thing. It's been a little more than two years since we last visited the 1961 Sid Davis public domain classic "Boys Beware." I guess it's taken me that long to shake the heebie jeebies I got from watching the first part. To recap - our hero, Jimmy Barnes, fell under the spell of a balding, mustached lothario named Ralph.
Jimmy somehow broke Ralph's spell and ratted him out to the cops. ... Read on, Daddy-O

I’ve struggled since last night trying to find a way to properly convey my thoughts upon seeing There Will Be Blood, and I still can’t. To be sure, it is a beautifully and expertly crafted film. I was riveted throughout all 158 minutes. Daniel Day-Lewis as actor and Paul Thomas Anderson as [...]
I've struggled since last night trying to find a way to properly convey my thoughts upon seeing There Will Be Blood, and I still can't. To be sure, it is a beautifully and expertly crafted film. I was riveted throughout all 158 minutes. Daniel Day-Lewis as actor and Paul Thomas Anderson as director deserve all the praise that has already been heaped upon them.
And yet, I am not exactly sure why I enjoyed the movie so much. After ... Read on, Daddy-O

Credit Rob Zombie for at least this much - he opted to offer a different perspective on John Carpenter’s 1978 horror classic Halloween rather than to simply update it. The problem is not that his new take fails to improve upon the original story, but that it detracts from it in crucial ways. While this [...]
Credit Rob Zombie for at least this much - he opted to offer a different perspective on John Carpenter's 1978 horror classic Halloween rather than to simply update it. The problem is not that his new take fails to improve upon the original story, but that it detracts from it in crucial ways. While this was perhaps predictable, it is nonetheless disappointing.
Zombie's biggest miscalculation is in providing a more detailed look at Michael Myers' early life in an abusive and low-class household. ... Read on, Daddy-O

Here’s a quote from Roger Ebert’s review of the 1986 classic Lucas, co-starring a budding talent by the name of Corey Haim:
Lucas is played by Corey Haim, who was Sally Field’s son in “Murphy’s Romance,” and he does not give one of those cute little boy performances that get on your nerves. He creates [...]
Here's a quote from Roger Ebert's review of the 1986 classic Lucas, co-starring a budding talent by the name of Corey Haim:
Lucas is played by Corey Haim, who was Sally Field's son in "Murphy's Romance," and he does not give one of those cute little boy performances that get on your nerves. He creates one of the most three-dimensional, complicated, interesting characters of any age in any recent movie. If he can continue to act this well, he will never become ... Read on, Daddy-O
