Football in Living Color - Game Programs of the American Football League, 1960-1969

I was born after the final American League Football game was played (the All-Star Game on January 17, 1970 to be exact), so I never got the chance to witness firsthand what must have been one of the most exciting times to be a football fan. But something about the AFL speaks to me, even more than four decades after it merged with the NFL. While my rooting loyalties have always been to the Oakland/Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders (a charter AFL franchise), I also pull just a little bit for the rest of the league's teams still playing today.

There are entire sites out there dedicated to keeping the memory and legacy of the AFL alive, and they do a much better job than I could ever hope to. But at least one area still remains to chronicle — game programs. Something about AFL game programs scratches me right where I itch. The combine my love of football, history, and vintage ephemera. Also, a lot of the cover art is just really, really cool.

So as my own small contribution to the AFL's enduring legacy and for fans like me, I've undertaken an effort to collect and curate cover images from every AFL program I can find — preseason, regular season, postseason, and team yearbooks.

You know the drill — click on one of the years below to begin your journey. If you can help fill any of the holes in my collection or provide better images for ones I already have, please let me know via email or on my Facebook page.
