KDOC’s New Year’s Eve Show Goes Wrong in the Funniest Way Possible

(Note 1/4/13: KDOC has compounded their excellent decision-making by getting the original video pulled. As long as people keep posting replacement copies I'll keep sharing.) We all know that live TV is a risky proposition these days, especially on New Year's Eve. The hosts are amped up and the crowd -- usually drunk -- is at best wildly unpredictable. Why, not even a respected cable new outlet like CNN is immune from things getting out of hand a little bit (thanks Kathy Griffin). So how is it that KDOC-TV out of Los Angeles could not predict that their live New Year's Eve broadcast featuring Jamie Kennedy, Stu Stone, Macy Gray, and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony would go completely off the rails? It sure has been a swell year here at The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit, and 2011 promises to be even slightly less mediocre!  But before I close the books on 2010, I'd like to leave you with a few little nuggets of New Year's Eve joy.  First up is this sweet, slightly unnerving short film from 1949 featuring the timeless seasonal classic, "Auld Lang Syne". And showing just how far we've come as a society since then, here's Kathy Griffin yelling a dick joke at some random heckler on CNN (New Year's Eve, 2008). Happy New Year everybody!

Sometimes there's something to be said for having little to no social life, and therefore spending New Year's Eve at home with nothing more than a loved one by your side, some decent champagne to drink, and the glow of TV to entertain you.  Such was the case last night as I and Mrs. Suit were channel hopping to catch various New Year's celebrations on the boob tube. Dick Clark, bless his heart, is just too awkward to watch at this point.  I commend him for coming back from a stroke to usher in the new year once again, but when you find yourself waiting eagerly for Ryan Seacrest to come back you know it's bad.
