Lexus, a perennial contender for the most annoying holiday commercials of the year, has roared back to the top of my Most Hated Christmas Commercial list in 2011 for all-time after being temporarily dethroned in 2010 by the Hyundai Hipsters. Incredibly, they've found a way to amp up the obnoxiousness even more this time by playing cutesy with their stupid "December to Remember" jingle. If you haven't seen this spot from 2011, get a barf bag handy: Look, I don't normally encourage class jealousy or class warfare, but this is just fucking ridiculous. Who exactly does this campaign appeal to, if not privileged, upper-class white people without an ounce of shame? At least this year's Acura holiday ads try to be funny. Oh look at us, we are so delightfully indie and quirky! Enjoy us frolicking in our secondhand store clothes as we shill for a multi-billion dollar car company! OK, I'll give Pomplamoose (WTF?) a little credit - having checked out some of their other covers they do have some good stuff. But damn these Hyundai commercials are irritating. Although I guess it beats watching those yuppie pukes put giant bows on their Lexuses (Lexi?).
I didn't have the gumption to post on a daily basis during the 2010 Winter Olympics, but I did watch a lot of them. As I get older I find that I enjoy the Olympics more and more, although I think I prefer the Summer games more. So here's some random observations on the 17-day spectacle that was the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics... • First off, I know I'm not the only one who thought NBC's coverage sucked hard. I don't even care about the tape delays so much (since I'm not around to watch during the day anyway), but there was so much else to hate. Look, I get that television networks are businesses, and the primary goal of a business is to make money. But really, could NBC have been any more clumsy about the unending barrage of commercials?
