Quantum of Solace teaser trailer

Quantum of Solace teaser trailer

The last James Bond flick, Casino Royale, kicked so much butt, not even a crappy title like Quantum of Solace makes me want to stay away from the next one.  It comes out in November here in the U.S. (October for my brothers and sisters across the pond), and here's the first teaser trailer... Hot damn!  Secret Agents Gone Wild!  I'll be ready for this to come out, just about the time I'm coming off the high of the next Batman movie.

You know how I know the new Cavemen series is going to suck?

TV & Radio
Because I get more laughs from a 30-second Geico caveman commercial than I did from this preview clip on ABC's website. Mistake number one was not getting the actors from the commercials to star in the series. They are actually a big reason why the ads work so well. Mistake number two was hiring a makeup designer from the local community college. With the possible exception of the one in the passenger seat, they look more like really tan guys with horrible grooming habits than prehistoric men. And although I can't tell from such a brief clip, I will bet money that another crucial aspect of the commercials - that the cavemen are actually rather urbane and sophisticated yuppie types - will be lost as well. Oh well, at least it can't be any lamer than According to Jim. I think.

Words can't express how geeked I am for July 13, when Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix hits the big screen, so I won't even try. In the meantime, Yahoo's page for the movie has a new trailer and some other stuff worth viewing. Holy crap, this movie looks like it will be awesome. This will be my first time seeing one of the HP movies in the theater, as I just discovered the series last summer. Lord knows I've seen the first movie enough times on ABC Family over the last 18 months or so.

If you're so inclined, scoot on over to Yahoo! Movies and check out the trailer for Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween. I could go either way on this one - I do so love the John Carpenter original, and am doubtful if remake is really needed. On the other hand, I know Rob Zombie is a huge horror fan so I think he will treat the material with respect. There are, of course, some major ingredients missing that could spell trouble. Instead of an unknown and fresh-faced Jamie Lee Curtis redefining the role of Scream Queen in what was her debut movie, Laurie Strode will be played Scout Taylor-Compton, who it seems has already built a sizable resume. I hope that experience doesn't prevent her from portraying the innocence that is crucial to the character. Also missing will be the late Dona...
One bad cover and one puzzling trailer

One bad cover and one puzzling trailer

Books, Movies
A few items of interest were released in the last few days. First, the cover for the seventh and final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released. I gotta say, while our friends across the pond usually have better covers for the Potter books, they really blew it on this one: Contrast that with the much better American edition: The American edition may be a bit sedate, but apparently the back and inside covers combine to form a pretty cool scene that involves Lord Voldemort. The British cover is a giant, goofy mess, by contrast. Although I guess pirate booty is somehow involved in the story if the illustration is indicative of the book's plot. Switching gears, the first teaser trailer for the third and final movie in the Bourne trilogy (The Bo...
