Wire Service #4: Chicago Christmas Tree (1973)

CHICAGO, Dec. 10 — CIVIC TREE ILLUMINATED BY 13,000 LIGHTS — Despite the tendency in many communities to do away with ornamental lighting because of the energy crisis this Christmas season, Chicago turned on its civic center official tree, ablaze with 13,000 lights, starting Monday evening. To conserve on electricity the tree will be lighted daily between 4p.m. and 8 p.m. only. City official said reduced lighting in other facilities would more than offset what is used on the 85-foot tall tree, composed of 65 trees joined together. (AP Wirephoto)
